The dead still collecting money

According to recent public-sector data that has been unearthed, several dead persons are still collecting pension payments. The Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Audley Shaw says that this scam has at least one former government employee on the run. It is believed that this employee has fled the island.

Shaw told journalists that multimillion-dollar frauds had been revealed. The archaic, paper-driven system that administers payments to over 100,000 public-sector workers has been named as one of the possible issues [...]

MotoGP Ben Spies a world champion in the making

Pride is not in short supply in America, so it came as no surprise that when the MotoGP warriors rode into Indianapolis, all eyes were focused on the Americans on the grid – Nicky Hayden, Colin Edwards and rookie Ben Spies.

Nicky Hayden (World Champion 2006) and Colin Edwards are not having the memorable season they were hoping for. Ben Spies on the other hand has forgotten his rookie status, his on track exploits thus far have raised several important eyebrows. [...]

Not the time to play Politics

I could not believe what I heard/saw on the news the other night. I watched in awe as the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for the Lauriston Division, Neil Powell, came on national television and stated that it was the People’s National Party (PNP) supporters who carried out the heinous murder of the eight people in Tredegar Park.

I do not know whether or not he has proof to support his claims or not, but I would hope that after making [...]

Still more good news

The good news just keeps on coming but sometimes it is easy to miss it amongst all of the bad news. According to Brian Wynter, governor of the Bank of Jamaica, in financial year 2011 the Jamaican economy is expected to grow by 0 – 1 percent. For a country that is undergoing the worst recession in decades and that no longer remembers what economic growth is, that is certainly good news. I have been stressing that economic growth should [...]

Is She Or Isn't She Beautiful

Hi there fashionista's

As I prepare for another fashion filled weekend in the Caribbean... I find that I am continuously being asked my opinion on the whether the new Miss Jamaica World, Chantal Raymond is beautiful or not?

Does she have " the looks" to win the Miss World competition? She's intelligent but is she beautiful? Did the judges make the right choice for a beauty pageant? Are the panel that selected her to be our Miss Jamaica World really credible, or [...]

Bank charges draw criticism

Recently there has been a lot of criticism for the charges banks add to customers for various transactions.

In all fairness, everyone knows that all banks charge for some services, such as changing checks and using A.T.M. machines. However, did you know that some banks charge you if you go below a minimum balance in your account?

So let's get it straight!
They want to punish those of us who have [...]

Eight killed in Tredegar Park Who will be next

Can you imagine lying in your bed, sleeping peacefully with your troubles far behind, then at the blink of an eye your entire world changes? I truly doubt that anyone wants their life to be taken away from them, particularly without cause or justification. Therefore, I wonder why it is that some individuals believe that they have a right to destroy the lives of others.

In the wee hours of the morning on Friday August 13, 2010 eight persons were brutally [...]

ISCF wins court case but may lose the battle

The recent decision by the local courts has handed the Island Special Constabulary Force a victory in their case for receiving their back pay although it did not specify a time for payment. This case will also serve to direct the government in how to deal with other public sector workers. For a country that is struggling to survive and to meet the IMF financial targets this decision could throw the whole island into chaos.

There was never an issue about [...]

Circuit Racing Inexpensive race cars in Barbados

I was looking at a few pictures recently, attached to the following caption/title - Digicel, Williams Industries International Race Meet - Lime by Digicel Barbados. The lime was 1 of the many promotional events held for the race meet scheduled for this weekend at Bushy Park.

As I looked at the pictures I couldn’t help but think that I was being reminded of a concept – the inexpensive race car. In this the modern era, race cars are fire breathing monsters, [...]
